TORRIDON
Polaroid
Torridon offer both the beauty and the contrasts of the area from which they take their name. From the surrounding mountains, the valleys and the lochs, to the community and pride in heritage that they share musically. In those they join the likes of Skerryvore and Skipinnish, providing us with a stirring fusion of classic rock with the pipes and tunes of their native land. Taking two musical forms and combining them successfully is a task in itself and one to which they’ve risen, but beyond that they also need to marry a lyrical element. to the musical pot. The band has history in this respect, drawing on sensitive awareness and more poignantly personal experience to reflect on some of the more negative experiences of the human psyche. That said the results positivity to be found as they add pop sensibilities to the overall mix, mining a rich seam of heritage that extends back through the likes of indie darling’s Aztec Camera and The Bluebells all the way to the ShangALang singalong of the Bay City Rollers. There is of course still room for swords held high and a Braveheart moment or two, but we wouldn’t expect anything less.
Rousing and reflective both – an album to be enjoyed on several emotional levels.
